Lest We Forget…

Hi All,

Today is 07 December and is the anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor — 07 Dec 1941. This is one of those dates that stands out for me, because it seems that many Americans are quick to forget about wars which are long passed. Well, I’m here to tell you, it’s not that long ago!

As a former active duty U.S. Marine, I have a special connection to those who have served. I feel a special obligation to say “Thank You” and be appreciative of those who served so long ago. The actions and sacrifices that were made made possible the decades of innovation, prosperity and freedom that followed.

A few years ago, on a trip to Hawaii, I stayed on the island of Oahu and took the time to visit the U.S.S. Arizona memorial. It was a moving experience for me. To go there and not be touched by what you see is improbable. To look into the water and see the continued oil seepage from the ship is a sobering sight. Having an up close and personal connection with the event that assured our entrance into World War II (WW II) brought tears to my eyes and a lump to my throat.

If you know of a veteran who served in WW II, please take a moment to reach out and say thank you for their service. Let them know that someone remembers and appreciates them and the other brave souls that they served with. With each passing day, there number of WW II veterans to acknowledge decreases. Please don’t miss an important opportunity.

If you do talk with a WW II vet or did on Veterans Day, please post a comment and share the story. If we don’t remember, no one will.

P.S. It’s OK to post a comment on those vets you talked to who served in other wars/conflicts… please don’t censor yourself.
