Back To Basics, Only Different

My first lesson (again) with Ron Eschete was today.  It was a real treat and I had a good time. I felt like I learned more about playing in the hour I spent with him than I have in decades!

It’s ALIVE! (at least, I am)

Yes, this is the kind of post title that is usually reserved for horror movies, I’ll give you that. Sorry. It’s just that I’m finally back writing. It’s true. Wondering why? Let me explain…

Back on the wagon…

Well, I had a fun time tonight! Haven’t had a lot of those lately, as I’ve been working my tail off. And this involved playing music!! Which was a double treat.

Been working too hard…

Living the life of a working professional doesn’t necessarily give a lot of time for blogging. I think that’s unfortunate — I really enjoy it. Despite that fact, I find that I’m spending a lot of time working.

For those of you who’ve shown up here for past posts, I appreciate your stopping by. For those who are waiting for new posts, I promise you I’ll have a new one out soon. I have an ear training recommendation all queued up, I just need to get you some screen shots.

Anyhow, stay tuned. All the best.

Happy 2010!

All,

Happy 2010 everyone!I trust that your holiday season was all you’d wanted it to be. I hope that this year is one filled with health, happiness and prosperity!

Sorry I haven’t posted in a bit. I’ve been down with the flu since the early part of December. Yes, you read that right. I’ve spent most of the past month flat on my back sick. I’d like to say that I used the time to think, but with the sinus headache that I had (the first I’ve ever had… not kidding about that either), I didn’t do much but lay there and moan. Given I’d not had one of those headaches before, I didn’t realize what it was. Now I know. My condolences for anyone that suffers from headaches like that.

While I’m not fully recovered yet, I am functional and getting back into the game. Look for an ear training post from me in the next few days. Have a little tool to point you to that you’re going to just love!

All the best,

kengon

Lest We Forget…

Hi All,

Today is 07 December and is the anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor — 07 Dec 1941. This is one of those dates that stands out for me, because it seems that many Americans are quick to forget about wars which are long passed. Well, I’m here to tell you, it’s not that long ago!

Chord Substitutions – Part 1

In case you’re wondering, I am not going “soft” and getting away from talking about Ear Training and Improvisation. Not even close! As it turns out, this is an area where we want to spend a little time, as there’s an interesting intersect point from these topics with Chord Substitutions.

“Sing, Sing A Song…”

Remember that song? Oh, you don’t… sorry.

Well, anyway, this post isn’t about singing (per se). More about improvisational skills and ear training. Seem to be my two favorite topics these days, eh?
